Fade to Noir
The blogosphere keeps going noir on me. Here are a few hardboiled links that have popped up in my last week of browsing:
- Our old friend Jay Pinkerton recently put up a few good comics about the adventures of Sam Stonehouse: Private Eye.
- These made me think of James Lileks' pulp pastiches about comic-strip detective Lance Lawson. (I'm pretty sure I've linked to them before, but they bear another look.)
- My ongoing wallowing in Jaime Weinman's archives turned up a post on the thre magic elements of film noir: shadows, cigarettes, and hats.
- Thrilling Detective has provided me hours of reading with its exhaustive list of Private Eyes and Other Tough Guys.
- Twists, Slugs and Roscoes: A Glossary of Hardboiled Slang gives the straight goods on how to talk like a bona fide shamus.
- And finally, he might not be quite film noir, but Jim Rockford is my favorite detective ever. And I'm happy to announce that Season One of The Rockford Files is now out on DVD. Buy it for me here.
